What is a Slip-on flange?

A slip-on flange, also known as a 'hubbed flange,' features a low-profile hub and is designed to slide over the pipe. It is typically attached to a pipe using one or two fillet welds - one on the outside and one on the inside of the flange. In some cases, only a single weld may be used. These flanges come in various sizes and are commonly used in lower-pressure applications (ASME Class ≤ 600).

The slip-on flange has an internal diameter larger than the pipe's external diameter, allowing it to "slip" over the pipe for attachment. Unlike other types of flanges, slip-on flanges do not require a full penetration weld between the pipe and flange. However, in situations where space limitations prevent the use of a welding neck flange, a slip-on flange may serve as a practical alternative.
