Reducer

A: Concentric reducers derive their name from their cone-like shape. They have both ends on the same axis, resulting in the smaller section being in the direct centre of the larger section when viewed head-on. This style of reducer is the most common. On the other hand, eccentric reducers reduce the pipe to one side.

A: Eccentric reducers are used at the suction side of pumps to ensure air does not accumulate in the pipe. The gradual accumulation of air in a concentric reducer could result in a large bubble that could eventually cause the pump to stall or cause cavitation when drawn into the pump.

A: In a concentric cone section, the top opening is in the middle of the manhole. An eccentric cone has the top opening shifted off center all the way to one side of the manhole wall. This is to allow installing permanent ladder rungs on to the manhole wall.

A: A correctly designed concentric reducer will not only provide a more uniform velocity distribution in comparison to an eccentric reducer, but will allow for the hydraulic transportation of air through the reducer.

A: A concentric reducer is used to join pipe sections or tube sections on the same axis. The concentric reducer is cone-shaped, and is used when there is a shift in diameter between pipes. For example, when a 1" pipe transitions into a 3/4" pipe and the top or bottom of the pipe doesn't need to remain level.

A: Eccentric training is more effective at increasing total and eccentric strength than concentric training. Eccentric training appears to be more effective at increasing muscle mass than concentric training.

A: When liquids are pumped that carry a small fraction of a heavier and immissible liquid the practice is to put in an eccentric reducer with the flat side on the bottom. That ensures that when drops of the heavier liquid come along the bottom of the line they too pass immediately and unhindered through the pump.

A: Concentric reducers are used where the pipework is vertically installed and at the discharge side of pumps. Eccentric reducers are more often used when the pipework lays on a pipe rack. Because of the flat side, aligning and securely mounting the pipes to the rack is easier.

A: There are 2 types of isotonic contractions: concentric and eccentric. In a concentric contraction, the muscle tension rises to meet the resistance then remains stable as the muscle shortens. During eccentric contraction, the muscle lengthens as the resistance becomes greater than the force the muscle is producing.
